Brighten Your Smile with Teeth Whitening - Toledo, Akron, Cleveland

Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, it is inevitable that some yellowing or discoloration will occur over time due to aging, certain medications, excessive fluoride, coffee, tobacco, red wine, and other factors. Thankfully, cosmetic dentist Bill Costaras, D.D.S. can return your smile to sparkling beauty with professional teeth whitening treatments available at our practice serving Toledo, Akron, Cleveland, and surrounding areas. Teeth whitening treatments can be performed either as an at-home, dentist-supervised process, or as an in-office procedure. For fast results, some patients even utilize both methods to get the whitest smile possible.

Dr. Costaras can achieve dramatic results, lightening teeth by multiple shades. At-home and in-office whitening can also be used in combination with other cosmetic dentistry treatments as part of a smile makeover as subtle or dramatic as you want it to be. Contact our cosmetic dentistry practice for more information!

At-Home Teeth Whitening Treatment

An effective method of tooth bleaching is the at-home, dentist-supervised teeth whitening option, available to our office serving Toledo, Akron, Cleveland, and nearby areas. The at-home teeth whitening process begins with a visit to our practice, where Dr. Bill Costaras takes a mold of the teeth. From this mold, he creates a customized pair of clear plastic mouth trays to hold the whitening solution against the teeth. The mouth trays fit snugly and comfortably into a patient's mouth and prevent the whitening solution from contacting the gums. The solution's main ingredient, carbamide peroxide, gently bleaches teeth by releasing hydrogen peroxide when it reacts with saliva in the mouth. For quicker results (about one to two weeks), patients can choose to wear the mouth trays throughout the night. If patients prefer the convenience of more gradual whitening, they can opt to wear the trays for two- to four-hour stretches for about three to five weeks. Gentle yet effective at-home teeth whitening achieves excellent results when performed correctly.

In-Office Teeth Whitening with BriteSmile® and Zoom!®

The fastest way to whiter teeth is in-office teeth whitening. Among our many patients from Toledo, Akron, Cleveland, and surrounding areas, this is a popular teeth whitening option. Dr. Bill Costaras uses both the BriteSmile® and Zoom!® whitening systems to help his patients achieve remarkable results. In performing the in-office teeth whitening procedure, Dr. Costaras carefully applies the BriteSmile® or Zoom!® whitening solution to the teeth. Then he uses a powerful blue light to activate the solution.

In-office bleaching is quick, safe, and effective, lightening teeth up to eight shades in about one hour. Many of our patients choose our BriteSmile® or Zoom!® in-office teeth whitening treatment because it is more convenient and provides more stunning results than at-home teeth whitening. If you live in or nearby Toledo, Akron, or Cleveland and desire more information on our professional teeth whitening treatments, please contact our practice today.

Patient Concerns about Teeth Whitening

Most patients do not report discomfort during or after teeth whitening treatment. For those who do experience discomfort, it is usually mild and short-lived. Generally, the most common side effects are heightened gum sensitivity and slight burning or aching of the gums.

Patients should also be aware that professional teeth cleanings are necessary to maintain the results of whitening treatment since teeth whitening does not prevent future staining. In particular, patients who drink large amounts of coffee, tea, or dark sodas may need to undergo repeat teeth whitening treatments in the future. Teeth whitening does not lighten porcelain veneers, crowns, or dental bonding material.
