Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin shells bonded to the tooth surface, altering the appearance of the tooth. Although other materials can be used to create veneers, Dr. Bill Costaras only uses porcelain veneers because of the durability and realistic appearance of porcelain. Porcelain veneers require very little removal of the tooth's enamel, making them a conservative alternative to dental crowns. Since porcelain veneers can quickly transform a tooth's shape and color, our cosmetic dentist uses them frequently in full-mouth restorations and smile makeovers at his office serving the Toledo, Cleveland, and Akron areas. Porcelain veneers can give patients whiter, straighter, and more even-looking teeth. To see actual results for many of patients with porcelain veneers, visit our Smile Gallery!

Porcelain Veneers Placement
The placement process takes about three visits to Dr. Bill Costaras's Westlake office. During the initial visit, Dr. Costaras describes the veneers placement process to the patient and discusses treatment options (e.g., types and shades of veneers). In the second visit, our expert dentist applies a light anesthetic and removes a tiny portion of the tooth's outer enamel. Then he takes a mold of the teeth and mouth, which he sends to a dental laboratory, where lab technicians use the mold to custom design the veneers. Patients wear temporary, laboratory-engineered veneers to cover the teeth until the porcelain veneers are ready. The temporaries provide an immediate transformation of the patient’s smile and, although not made of porcelain, provide a “preview” of what the final smile makeover will achieve. In the third dental visit to our office, serving the Toledo, Cleveland, and Akron areas, Dr. Costaras places the porcelain veneers on the teeth. He administers a local anesthetic, affixes the porcelain veneers to the teeth with a strong bonding material, hardens the bonding material with a special light, and buffs the veneers to a shine. Once in place, porcelain veneers look and feel completely natural, are impervious to staining and are considered among the most permanent dental restorations available.
For patients undergoing full mouth cosmetic reconstruction, the veneering process will require more than three visits. That is because Dr. Costaras will transform your anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth in phases. This phased approach is required to ensure that proper dental function and occlusion – the manner in which upper and lower teeth come together when the mouth is closed - are not interrupted. Without this very careful, systematic approach to full mouth restoration, a patient may experience unnecessary discomfort and disturbed dental function. Dr. Costaras’s twenty years of experience in cosmetic reconstruction have made him an expert in restoring and maintaining proper dental function while achieving dramatic cosmetic results.
